  9. Convert is a program to convert between various units (such as 
  10. feet to meters or gallons to liters) in a particular dimension (such 
  11. as length, volume, etc.).  It was written in Visual Basic Ver 1.00 
  12. and therefore REQUIRES the presence of the VBRUN100.DLL library in 
  13. your Windows directory in order to run.
  14.  
  15. This is an upgrade to Convert version 0.8 and includes many more 
  16. features and conversions.  The following dimensions are now included:
  17. Mass, Length, Time, Speed, Temperature, Volume, Area, Force, Energy, 
  18. and Power.  In all, there are more than 80 units within the above 
  19. dimensions making up over 750 possible conversions.

  21. Some other new features included in this version are:
  22.  
  23. ∙The ability to display the converted number in either standard or 
  24. scientific notation.
  25. ∙The ability to specify that the converted number be displayed with 
  26. from 0 to 16 decimal places.
  27. ∙The ability to paste the results to the clipboard (e.g. "3 Pounds = 
  28. 48 Ounces")
  29. ∙The capability to change the color schemes of the conversion 
  30. forms.

  33. There is no help for the program as everything should be 
  34. straightforward.  The possible exceptions to this are AU - 
  35. Astronomical Unit, and v/c - velocity (speed, to be precise) 
  36. relative to the speed of light (v/c = 0.9 means 90% of the speed of 
  37. light).  The time value for a year was based on the ephemeris second 
  38. of the tropical year 1900 January 0d 12h.  If you don't understand 
  39. the preceding sentence, then don't worry about it - it's not 
  40. important.  The furlongs per fortnight was included for those 
  41. individuals who joke about such a unit and may have idly wondered 
  42. how big it really is.  Also, all variables in Convert are double 
  43. precision, but the answer can only be as accurate as the original 
  44. number.  That is, all those digits don't mean anything if your 
  45. original value was obtained with a wooden ruler.

  50. Convert has a default color scheme that bugs some people.  
  51. Therefore, a command line switch is included to start the program 
  52. with all white colors.  Simply type "convrt10 w" in the Run 
  53. selection under the File menu of Program Manager.  When including 
  54. Convert as a Program Item in one of your Program Groups, enter 
  55. "convrt10 w" in the "Command Line:" box  to start the program with 
  56. all white colors.  If the above is too much trouble, just click 
  57. "options" and "colors" from within the program to change colors.  
  58. Note that the color changes won't take effect until you actually hit 
  59. the "convert" button.

  61. The box for displaying the result of conversions was sized based on 
  62. displaying the number in scientific notation with 16 decimal 
  63. places.  Since you can specify standard notation (123,456,789,...,...
  64. ), very large numbers may overflow the display box.  If this 
  65. happens, click "Number Format", set scientific notation, and hit 
  66. "convert" again [Any time you change the number format, you must 
  67. click "convert" again for the changes to be displayed].  If you 
  68. really want to see the number in standard notation, paste the result 
  69. to the clipboard.  When the clipboard is opened, you will be able to 
  70. see the all the digits - over 300 in some cases!

  75. This program is shareware; you are given a free three week trial 
  76. period to determine if Convert is useful for your purposes.  If you 
  77. decide to keep the program, you must register it by sending $15.00 to 
  78. the address at the end of this file.  Users who register Convert 
  79. version 0.8 (for a fee of $10) before 1 August 1992 will receive a free 
  80. registered copy (i.e., sans intro screen) of version 1.0.  You may 
  81. freely distribute Convert as long as no fee is charged for it other 
  82. than a nominal fee for the media (not to exceed $5.00).  Convert is 
  83. copyrighted software and as such may not be altered in any way, and 
  84. must be distributed with all files intact.  Convert consists of the 
  85. following files:

  90. to include more conversions and features.  Even if you decide not to

  94. you would like to see in future versions.
